Considering frequent protests from traders, the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee has decided to extend date for depositing conversion charges from December 31 to January 15.
Meanwhile, the building department of South Zone also took action against commercial establishment officers/shops on Chhatarpur Bhati Road on the direction of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee. During this drive 34 commercial outlets were sealed for misusing agriculture land for commercial purposes. Most of them were marble trading showrooms.
After Defence Colony and Chhatarpur markets, the sealing drive is likely to be extended to other commercial units in South Extension, Green Park, Hauz Khas and Greater Kailash, lajpat Nagar, Karol Bagh and Mehrauli over non-payment of conversion charge for using the first and second floors of their buildings meant for residential use.
“A detailed list has been drawn and action will be initiated against the shop and restaurant owners of these markets who have not paid taxes to the SDMC despite repeated reminders,” said the official.
The Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee which was revived on December 15 this year, has three members including KJ Rao, former advisor to the Election Commission, Bhure lal, chairman of Environment Pollution Prevention & Control Authority (EPCA) and Major General (retd) Som Jhingan.
