Sheila slams AAP Govt, Delhi Police over law and order situation

Delhi Congress on Wednesday launched an attack on ruling Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi Police for “deteriorating” law and order in the city after the report of an alleged rape of a one-year-old child came on Tuesday at Aman Vihar area.

Delhi Congress president Sheila Dixit said that instead of wasting public money on huge hoardings showing the smiling faces of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Central and Delhi Government should spend that money for creating legal awareness and put fear of the Law among criminals. People should also be sensitised to make them aware of the consequences of such heinous crimes.

Addressing media persons party chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee said that despite Aman Vihar area was figured as a “vulnerable area which is infamous for crimes and also a trafficking point, the Delhi Police did not take adequate measures to prevent such crimes.

“In last four years many cases of rapes, molestation and kidnapping of children have been reported from Aman Vihar but still neither the Kejriwal Government nor the Delhi Police has taken any measures to stop crimes in the area. Mukherjee also demanded the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister for failing to prevent cases of crimes against women in Delhi. “Delhi has now become the crime Capital of India as NCR’s crime report among metropolitan cities provides a gloomy picture about the safety and security of women and children in Delhi.

She said that even after the much-flaunted amendment to the Criminal Law and POSCO Act were introduced in 2018 with provision to complete the investigation and trial within two months, there were 82 pending investigations in 2018 in Delhi alone.

“The total number of people arrested in Delhi under POSCO in the last four years was 412, with 160 pending cases, but sadly not a single conviction under POSCO has taken place in Delhi,” she said.
