In view of the recent murder of a class two student in a school in Gurugram and the rape of a child in a Delhi school, North Delhi Municipal Corporation has issued a circular to all its schools, instructing them to follow a range of safety and security measures to avoid any such incidents. Further, the civic body is also gearing up to install CCTV cameras in all its school to keep a close vigil. “It was also decided to separate toilets for staff and students,” the official said.
A senior NMC official said that all the schools have also been told to collect transportation details of students such as vehicle’s number, driver’s name and number etc from their parents. “Student should be provided photo identity card with instruction to carry it whole the day. No student should be allowed to go out of school without parents’ or Ward’s permission with any other person,” he said.
“A range of directives have been given such as maintaining registers to record in and out movement of outsiders. Address and other contact details of wards of each student be also maintained and updated from time-to-time. Classrooms which are not in use must be locked,” said that official.
Delhi Mayor Preety Agarwal said that all school principals have been directed to ensure those staff members reaching 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled opening time and leave 15 minutes after the students will leave the premises.
Agarwal further said that main entry gate of the school should be kept closed after the beginning of the school and should be opened only with the permission of the school principal. “Staff members of the schools should not be allowed in the school premises on the day when they don’t have the duty and neither should they allow living inside the school premises. They have also instructed not to allow any vendor in the close proximity of the school,” she added.
Mayor also said that details of the van and driver which bring mid-day meal to schools and staff members should be recorded in a register. “Relative and kin of women sanitation worker should not be allowed to enter the school premises to help her. Also school principal must take regular rounds of the school premises to ensure the safety of the students,” she said.
