Asserting to stop sealing within one month after coming to power, former Union Minister and Congress New Delhi candidate Ajay Maken said that sealing drive reflected the anti-business and anti-traders mindset of the Modi Government.
Addressing traders in Karol Bagh, he said that the BJP has killed opportunities of employment by sealing businesses in Delhi. “The unemployment rate is the highest in 45 years. The Centre has destroyed businesses through ill thought out GST and draconian demonetisation policy.
He reminded the traders that when Municipal Corporation of Delhi came to execute sealing in the Karol Bagh on the order of the Supreme Court, the Congress government took immediate steps in stopping the sealing.
“Karol Bagh and its adjoining areas such as Patel Nagar etc were designated as special areas and declared commercial areas so that no sealing could take place”, he said, adding that 22 industrial areas were carved out leading to massive economic activity creating substantial employment. 225 non polluting industries were declared household industry and could be carried out in residential areas thus creating business opportunities & employment for many.
He further pointed out that MNREGA, though a policy of employment for rural poor had benefited both traders and economic activity in general as the poor tend to spend what they earn. “The increased purchasing power in the hands of the poor gave a boost to economy as they tend to spend on goods & services. Similarly the NYAY scheme would benefit the poor as well as the middle class traders and would generally lead to an increase in economic activity bringing prosperity to all. Schemes like MNREGA and NYAY would lead to increase in demand for goods & services. As a consequence there would be increase in production lead to better employment opportunities, he added.
