SDMC keeps dengue at bay

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday said it has registered just one dengue case in the last five months. The South Corporation, which recorded highest number of dengue cases last year, comes out strong this year and has managed to launch a successful campaign against dengue.

South Delhi Municipal Corporation leader of the House Subhash Arya said South Corporation is taking continuous measures to keep the deadly disease at bay. “It is a huge achievement for the SDMC. No malaria cases have been reported and only one dengue case has been reported so far. The corporation is doing fogging as per requirement as the process of fogging is lethal to the health of asthma patients. We are ensuring that fogging is only done in areas where mosquito breeding is being detected,” he added.

Cases of malaria too have gone down drastically. The Corporation, in order to control massive outbreak, has launched a massive Intensive Dengue Prevention Drive in its all wards especially on weekends, so that besides anti-larvae and fumigation of the area, citizens could also be sensitised about its prevention. The drive comprised teams of the Malaria Department for multi-throng activity like anti larvae, fumigation through hand handled machines, vehicles mounted fogging machine, power spray for stagnant water in large quantity, domestic breeding checkers for door to door checking and one to one education about preventive measures.

Besides, mobile public address system was used to educate and create awareness for taking preventive measures by each and everyone to check the spread of dengue.

“The need of the hour is to tackle the issue of dengue practically. All the measures are being taken up by SDMC to ensure relief from the deadly disease,” added Arya.
