SDMC far away from target: loP

Staff Reporter
Despite tall claims to improve civic services and health through revenue generation, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) is far away from its target, said the leader of Opposition (loP) of the agency, Farhad Suri in his budget speech on
Tuesday.
The Opposition leader claimed that neither the earlier announced projects completed nor was a mechanism developed to ensure better civic amenities in South Delhi area as announced by the corporation commissioner and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during their consecutive budget presentations and "now again promises are being made on similar lines keeping upcoming election in view."
"The Commissioner has claimed that 63 toilet blocks under construction and 74 community toilets were being improved but failed to talk about how much target had been achievedIJ The SDMC has 116 car parking sites, out of which 88 are old and 28 have been recently handed over by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to SDMC. Currently 80 car parking sites are being run but as many as 36 sites are not allotted due to which corporation is facing loss. What surprises me that the target fixed for under this head in year 2016-17 was Rs 100 crores but has been reduced to Rs 42 crores in the RBEIJ" asked Suri.
He further added that the project to convert Rs 1,98000 street lights for lED has certain anomalies as the figure seems to be on the lower side whereas the actual figure is much higher.
