A 12-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide after her mother scolded her for wetting their bed quite frequently on Thursday afternoon in South Delhi's Aurobindo market area, police said on Friday.
According to a senior police official, the deceased has been identified as Komal, who stayed with her family in a jhuggi close to the market. Komal's father Dhanilal is a rickshaw puller and her mother Sangeeta is a domestic servant.
“Komal had a consistent bedwetting problem. She used to sleep with her parents and three sisters on the bed while her two brothers would sleep on the floor. This disordercaused a lot of problems for her parents, who frequently scolded her for it," said the police official.
“Early Thursday morning, Sangeeta woke up to find her portion of the bed wet. She scolded Komal and blamed her for the odour, stating that it was impossible to stay in the room due to it. She shouted at Komal saying that she would throw her out of the room when she returned from work,” said the police official.
Komal could not bear the scolding and after her parents and siblings left for work, she brought a plastic pipe and a rope from the bathroom, and hanged herself to death from the ceiling fan, said the police official.
“There were rope marks on Komal's throat area and initial post-mortem reports said Komal commited suicide by hanging herself. We also had her medical examination investigated to find other angles but there was no evidence of murder or sexual assault ," said the official. A case under section 174 crpc regarding the incident was registered at Safdurjung Police station.
