A 28-year-old junior teacher of ITI in Nizamuddin was arrested on the charges of abusing, threatening and outraging the modesty of a senior teacher of the same institute. A case under Sections 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 506 (threatening) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Hazrat Nizamuddin police station of South East Delhi.
Police said that the accused Anil Kumar is a resident of North Delhi and was working with the institute for the last two years. “The incident occurred on December 18 during the office hours inside the staff room of the teachers. The accused first made obscene gestures and when the victim objected, he then threatened her that she would face dire consequences if she complained against him with anyone,” a senior police officer said.
The victim, in her statement, told the police that she was instructing the accused Kumar regarding some work when he suddenly got enraged and started abusing her. “She first asked to stop him but instead of stopping, he started making obscene gestures before the victim. The victim them immediately informed their head of department who in turn informed the police about the incident,” the officer added. On the basis of the victim’s statement, a case was registered and the accused was later arrested from his residence.
