The indefinite fast of Nirpreet Kaur, one of the 1984 riot victims, entered the third day on Sunday. Kaur, who is protesting against the acquittal of Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in the anti-Sikh riot case, also received support from Delhi BJP leaders who led by former president Vijender Gupta reached Jantar Mantar offering support to her.
The party demanded justice for the aggrieved families and said the BJP would extend all possible support to the protesters in their fight for justice. Nirpreet, who is a witness to her father’s murder in the riots, is on an indefinite fast since Friday and is not ready to have a morsel of food until her four demands are fulfilled.
Kaur had on Saturday shot off a letter to the Prime Minister asking him to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the riots. She has also demanded that CBI should file an appeal in the Delhi High Court against Sajjan Kumar in the case in which he was recently acquitted by a trial court.
The demands put forward by Kaur include producing the charge sheet prepared in 1992 against Sajjan Kumar, for killing four people in Nangloi. The charge sheet, she claimed, has enough evidence against Kumar. The second demand is suspension of DCP Rajiv Ranjan who allegedly suppressed the charge sheet to shield the guilty. Besides, she has also demanded forming a Special Investigation Team to carry out inquiry separately and lastly, an appeal should be filed immediately in the high court against the acquittal of Sajjan Kumar. “The trial should take place on a day-to-day basis and conclude it within three months,” she demanded.
