RSS steps in to help BJP

At a time when the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has gone full throttle with its campaigning in Delhi and the BJP is pinning hopes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s maiden rally on January 10, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has stepped in to boost BJP’s prospects in upcoming Delhi Assembly election. On Wednesday, the party had its first meeting with RSS leaders wherein districts were assigned to 14 pracharak for micro-managing constituencies in the city.

The meeting was chaired by BJP national general secretary (organisation) Ram lal, who himself has been a part of the Sangh. RSS pracharak from Madhya Pradesh Arvind Kothekar has been appointed the in-charge of the 14-member RSS team.

Among others, Madhav Singh from Bhopal has been given Keshav Puram constituency and Jitendra Kapoor will look after Chandni Chowk. The entry of the RSS is expected to give must-need fillip to the Delhi BJP. A big team of the Sangh has been in the field already to act as man Friday of the BJP.

The 14 key RSS leaders are from States like Haryana, Maharasthra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. “These leaders have been appointed as general secretary — organisation (sangathan mahamantri),” said a senior BJP leader. Besides, each of the 70 Assembly seats has been assigned one pracharak to help the party micro-manage campaigning.

“There is nothing new in this. To prepare the base for the fight, RSS men have been placed at ground level in the Delhi BJP and they have been working for over one month now,” said the leader.
