Thieves are targeting Members of Parliament (MPs). On Wednesday, a stepney of an SUV owned by Rajya Sabha MP of Indian National Congress, Pradeep Bhattacharya, was reportedly stolen.

Shambhoo Nath Sahoo the driver of the MP found out about it and reported the matter to police after which an FIR was registered at the North Avenue Police Station.

According to a senior police official, the theft was found around 12.30 pm when Bhattacharya’s driver after dropping the MP to the IGI Airport stopped at a filling station to get the air pressure checked.

“Bhattacharya, who stays at BKS Marg, was to catch a flight and after his driver dropped him to the airport, he stopped at a petrol pump next to Ashoka Hotel in South Delhi to fill gas,” said the police official.

“At the petrol pump, after I checked the tyre pressure, I opened the boot to take out the stepney but it was not there,” alleged Sahoo.

Meanwhile, police said during preliminary investigations it seems that the stepney was stolen from the garage of the MP itself on Monday night.

“Based on the complaint of Sahoo, we have registered a case under Section 379 at the North Avenue Police station and have started further investigations in the matter,” said the police official.

In another incident, burglars tried to break into the flat of another Congress MP Mohammed Ali Khan who resides at flat no. 301, Brahamaputra apartments at BD Marg.

The carpenter of the MP reported the incident to police after he saw that the central lock of the MP’s house was broken. luckily nothing was stolen from the house. The carpenter said the lock of the house was durable and that might have prevented the robbers from ransacking the apartment as it took away all their time in breaking the lock.

Police said the carpenter alleged that the incident happened when the MP was not in Delhi. “Based on his complaint we registered a case under Section 380,457, 511 of the Indian Penal Code at the North Avenue Police station,” said the police official.

Police are investigating the incidents.
