Owing to the ongoing tussle between the district administration and private concessionaire Delhi Gurgaon Super Connectivity ltd (DGSCl) — operator of the Delhi-Gurgaon toll plaza —the stretch remains poorly lit thus, risking the life of scores of commuters. At least 60 per cent of the streetlights on the road have been non-functional for quiet some time and despite many reminders by the district administration, lights have not been fixed at the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway — National Highway 8.

Shekhar Vidyarthi, Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon said that DGSCl has not been implementing the suggestions made by the senior officials of the district administration in terms of various issues, including repairing of street ights and roads. “The company is violating the direction of district administration,” he said.

“In view of the upcoming foggy season, we have repeatedly asked the concessionaire to repair the street lights, not functional from Shirhaul Toll Plaza to Kherkidaula. They have ignored our suggestions. We have also suggested them that the civic authority, Huda, would repair the lights soon, but they are not allowing Huda to initiate the repair work either by saying that the matter is in the High Court,” Vidyarthi added.

Around 60 per cent of the street lights, including 12 lights on IFFCO Chowk flyover, have been non-functional and has been giving some tough time to commuters during night hours. However, the Spokesperson of DGSCl said that most of the non-functional lights on the expressway have been repaired and are now operational. “Work is on to ensure that the remaining non-functional lights will be made operational soon,” he said.

Earlier, NHAI had directed the district administration to install traffic lights to deal with decongestion at the busy Hero Honda Chowk on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. The district administration had given the charge to Huda to install the traffic lights after concessionaire had turned down installation.
