Functioning of the Airport Metro Express line has significantly improved since its takeover by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) from Delhi Airport Metro Express limited in July 2013.

The average monthly ridership of the Airport Metro line has increased by 30 to 40 per cent since July 2013 when DMRC took over the line, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said in a written reply in the lok Sabha on Wednesday.

He said operating loss has reduced from Rs345.25 lakhs in July 2013 to monthly average of Rs82.09 lakh during April-June 2014. The Minister said that fares of Airport Metro Express line have been reduced by about 40 per cent for various trips with effect from July 24, 2014.

As per the revised fare structure, a minimum single journey on the corridor now costs Rs20, replacing the earlier minimum fare of Rs30, while the maximum fare will be Rs100 against the earlier fare of Rs180. “Therefore, a one-way journey from the New Delhi station to Dwarka Sector 21 using a single journey token will now cost only Rs100,” said a Delhi Metro statement.
