While remembering Padma Vibhushan Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his second death anniversary, Editor-in-chief of The Pioneer Dr Chandan Mitra said he was an unrivalled popular icon of the Assamese and was a rooted sub-nationalist. He further said there was sense of rhythm and vibrancy in his music and poetry. “Somewhere an internationalist resided in him and from a sub-nationalist he became a super nationalist as his ideas were popular not just in North-Eastern States but in East India and across the nation,” he said.
The second death anniversary of Hazarika, was celebrated in the Capital on Tuesday in the form of a lecture series. The symposium was also attended by close associates of Hazarika who spoke about his contributions to society. Titled Gana Shilpi and dreams of his people, the event had a brainstorming session on the preservation of culture in the N-E. Along with Dr Mitra, other eminent speakers were filmmaker Jahnu Barua, theatreperson Dulal Roy, actor Adil Hussain and Tej Hazarika.
