Investigation into the triple murder-cum-suicide case involving the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) official has revealed that Ananya Chakravarty had very estranged relationship with his wife and Chakravarty had sought divorce from his wife Jaishri. Rajshri, the younger sister of Jaishri, told police that Ananya wanted divorce from her sister and this led to frequent fights between the couple.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem of the R&AW officer Ananya Chakravarty and his three family members was conducted at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on Monday and bodies were handed over to their relatives. Police said a report result is expected in a couple of days, but preliminary information of the report has revealed that Chakravarty had stabbed his wife 14 times in the head, neck, stomach and chest. He stabbed his son, Arnab (17) and daughter Disha (10) around 7 times in the stomach, chest and back. Police have recovered a hammer and a large knife soaked in blood from the house after the incident.
Police sources said that Rajshri, the younger sister of the victim, recorded her statement and disclosed that her sister had estranged relations with her husband and she was not happy with his stubborn and egoistic behaviour. “On Sunday, police recorded the statement of Rajshri who told the police that her sister was unhappy with his egoistic behavior and quarrels on a daily basis. Initially she tolerated his cruelty because the future of their children was at stake. But she later rebelled when he started physically abusing them,” sources added.
Sources further stated that Chakravarty, who worked as a clerical staff member in the Cabinet Secretariat, was irate when his wife rebelled and the children sidled up to their mother. “Few months ago, Chakravarty asked her to give him a divorce. He always threatened her with divorce when a quarrel broke out. This was also the reason why both used to have frequent fights,” police sources said, adding Jaishri also told the police that Disha was an adopted child of the couple. Chakravarty’s friends and relatives have also revealed that he had a problem with his wife working as a teacher in a private school.
