Residence of Ramesh Park in lakshmi Nagar area are forced to drink contaminated and soiled water. It has been more than 17 months and the water is still not in a position to be treated for drinking. The residents have left no stone unturned to get their grievances redressed but all their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The situation is alarming and is harming the health of the public especially children and senior citizens.
Residential are sending messages, photos, e-mails to the MlA and other higher authorities of the area regularly from last one and a half year and getting zero response from their side. Mohammad Gayasuddin Khan, a resident says we have been calling these officials regularly and have done everything to get our issues resolved. But officials are not willing to listen to them and have been making false promises.
“The condition is so worse that we are now buying water to manage our livelihood. There is a deep rooted nexus between the water mafia and the officials as one can see people selling potable water in very lane of our area” said another resident who did not want to be named.
The water condition that the residents get is not fit for daily ablutions even. When asked about the problems faced by the residents, Manish Sharma, the Junior Engineer of the area, accepted the fact that the water quality is not up to the mark.
Dr Shubham Khandelwal at lal Bahadur Shastri hospital says, “such water is no less than a poison to anybody’s health. Contaminated water can cause many types of diarrheal diseases, including Cholera, and other serious illnesses such as Guinea worm disease, Typhoid, and Dysentery. Water related diseases cause 3.4 million deaths each year”.
The presence of contaminants in water can lead to adverse health effects, including gastrointestinal illness, reproductive problems, and neurological disorders. Infants, young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people whose immune systems are compromised because of AIDS, chemotherapy, or transplant medications, may be especially susceptible to illness from some contaminants” Dr Khandelwal added.
