Raiding Delhi Police team pelted with stones

Staff Reporter

Around nine policemen, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Narela police station, were injured and four police vehicles were vandalised in Outer Delhi’s Narela area after locals attacked them claiming the police to be hand-in-glove with a sex racket in the area.

The SHO of Narela, Ghulam Shabbir suffered a fracture to his hand. All the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

According to police, they got a PCR call around 9.30 pm about a sex racket being run at Sector A10, Narela. When police reached the spot, it was found that the locals were agitated and claimed that one of the female tenants in the area was running a flesh racket. On enquiry, police officials found that there were two female relatives of the tenant in the house who had come to visit her and three other male friends of theirs had also come to meet them. The police officers decided to take all of them to the police station for questioning. However, as they were moving out, the locals thought that police was shielding them and resorted to stone pelting. Some of them also attacked policemen with sticks. Police Control Room (PCR) vans, police

vehicles, including the SHO’s Jeep and other vehicles were vandalised by the mob.

Reinforcements were soon rushed in from neighbouring police stations to control the situation and senior officers also reached the spot. “The women and men in the house neither filed a complaint nor did they say they were forced into prostitution. They claimed their friends had come to meet them. The locals had started fighting amongst themselves and wanted to enter the house of the women residing there. We wanted to take them to the police station to verify facts but the situation turned ugly,” said a police official.

A case under sections of damage to public property, obstructing a public servant from discharge of duties, rioting and other appropriate sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Narela police station. Six people, including a juvenile, have been apprehended by police. The locals claimed that a sex racket was being run in the area with the connivance of police.
