An eight-month pregnant woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her bedroom in Kavi Nagar of Ghaziabad on Wednesday morning, police said. However, parents of the woman alleged that their daughter was strangulated to death by her in-laws who falsely projected the case as a suicide.

They have lodged a complaint against her in-laws alleging that their daughter has been murdered for dowry. Police said the victim, Amlesh (27), married Anand Yadav in 2012. They had a one-and-half-year-old daughter. Her in-laws informed the police that Amlesh went to her bedroom on Tuesday night but when she did not come out of her bedroom till late in the morning on Wednesday, the mother-in-law peeped inside the room and saw her daughter-in-law hanging from the ceiling fan.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under Section 304 B of IPC against Amlesh’s mother in-law (Sumitra), husband (Anand Yadav), father in-law (Charan Singh) and brother in-law (Sanjay).“The body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem. Further investigation is on. No arrest has been made till now,” said Station House Officer Avneesh Gautam.
