The Delhi Police personnel on Thursday approached Commissioner of Delhi Police Alok Kumar Verma to get their problems solved. Sources said issues from trimming of peepal trees in police residential colonies to tank leakage to theft of pipes to dog menace were raised.
Directing the concerned units with the Delhi Police, the Commissioner of Police (CP) discussed the grievances of the men in uniform in depth and asked for preventive steps to be taken accordingly.
One of the key problems addressed in the CP meeting was that of the monkey menace.
Found in large numbers in the area of Ashoka Police lines, police personnel said how the animals break the water taps thereby causing inconvenience to the families. “The CP suggested that forest departments should be approached to solve this issue and catch the monkeys. The Commissioner directed the New Delhi Municipal Council authorities to cover the water tanks with grills so that the monkeys do not end up entering the place where the tanks are located.”
Raising other problems, police personnel highlighted how out of the total 309 Government quarters allotted to them, 291 police quarters are in a dangerous state. To which, the Commissioner has asked the concerned authority to take due action in this regard.
According to sources, the issue of seepage was also raised. “There is seepage problem in all police colonies due to peepal trees and leaves lying on the rooftops and due to overflow of water from the overhead tanks and choked roof traps.”
In light of this, Verma has directed that peepal trees should be trimmed. Besides, the over-head tanks must be maintained including fixing of taps and cleaning of roofs.
The meeting was attended by the Special Commissioner of Police (CP), Joint Commissioners of Police, Deputy Commissioners of Police and Additional Deputy Commissioners of Police and others.
