The accused, identified as Mahender Sharma was on Tuesday presented before Dwarka Court at 1:45 pm following which he was sent to 14-day judicial custody. “Sharma allegedly molested a woman on the pretext of marrying her,” said a police officer.

According to police, Sharma got into physical relation with his neighbour, a 46- -year-old woman and promised to marry her.

A few months later, when she asked him about marriage plans, he refused. Based on which, she filed a case against him, said an investigating officer.

It has been alleged that the duo knew each other for the last 17 years and were living in the same area. Sharma used to practise witchcraft at his house while the woman was a homemaker.

The woman filed an FIR in Palam Vihar police station. “She approached us and shared her ordeal. Based on her complaint, we raided Sharma’s house in Mahavir Enclave on Monday night and nabbed him from the spot.”

Moreover, in her complaint, the woman alleged that Sharma used to call her to his house on the pretext of helping her to solve her personal problems. She also said that he has raped several other women on the pretext of helping them.

“Sharma confessed of his crime during interrogation and told about his denial of marriage,” said a police officer.

He also stated that he had raped her on several occasions, only on pretext of marrying her. “After raping her several times, I started ignoring her,” told Sharma to police.

Moreover, Sharma confessed that he was already married and has two children. A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered against him at the Palam Village police station.
