A perfect “chor-police” scene was played out in real life when a team of Delhi Police on patrolling duty nabbed a man who had stolen more than a hundred mobile phones from a shop in Prem Nagar area and was trying to flee in a stolen car on the intervening night of March 24 and 25.

The incident was reported in Central Delhi’s Patel Nagar where the alert PCR staff consisting of Sub-Inspector Manmeet and Constable Jawahar caught a member of a five member gang of thieves red-handed in a dramatic way.

A senior police officer said, “The gang of five men struck at an electronics shop in Prem Nagar on late night of March 24. They came in a grey Santro car and had broken the shutters of the shop and decamped with 3 lED TVs and 110 mobile phones.

While the men were leaving the shop in their grey car, a PCR van on patrolling duty saw them. In the meantime, a passerby, who was trying to take out his car managed to block the way of the thieves in the car.

With the help of the locals, the PCR staff managed to overpower one accused, Rahul while the four other managed to escape.

It was a difficult situation since all the accused were carrying pistols. The two policemen somehow managed to overpower Rahul and apprehended him.

Police sources said that they suspect the involvement of the Mewati gang behind the theft.

On inspection, a countrymade pistol along with the stolen booty was recovered from the possession of the accused. Police said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Patel Nagar police station. Further Investigation is underway.
