In view of the terror threat to the security of the national Capital, the Delhi Police has drawn an elaborate security plan ahead of the Republic Day celebrations. As part of the plan, 445 high definition CCTV cameras will be installed in order to keep tabs on each and every movement in and around Rajpath. Besides, the standard point tilt zoom (PTZ) cameras,  Internet Protocol (IP) mega pixel CCTV cameras will also be installed in the areas.

Data available with the Delhi Police stated that while 186 cameras will be installed in New Delhi district, security unit will have 80 CCTV cameras, central district will be guarded by 83 cameras, north district will have 70 cameras and north-west district will have 26 cameras. Police are mulling to install more CCTVs  if required.

Two types of IP mega pixel CCTV cameras, Fixed and Point tilt Zoom, will be placed in all the districts.

The location of the cameras and Control Room will be intimated by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Security (PM) and other districts.

They will also be operated from the Police Headquarters in order to check their efficiencies.

“CCTVs will largely be placed around Rajpath in New Delhi district and around the Chatrasal stadium in North West district,” said a police official.

According to the official, once these cameras are tried and tested more number of CCTV cameras will be installed and other security arrangements made consequently.

The official further said that all the CCTVs will be hired and the estimated cost is around Rs 6,20,000.

This year, the Chief Guest of Republic Day will be crown prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Intelligence inputs had warned of the possibility of terror attacks by outfits like Jaish-e-Mohammed and lashkar-e-Tayyeba.

Around 200 companies (20,000 personnel) of paramilitary forces will watch over vital installations in central Delhi and Rajpath will be a no-fly zone.

Snipers will be placed over more than 50 buildings overlooking Rajpath where dignitaries will be seated.

Anti-aircraft guns will also be deployed at several vantage points to prevent any sort of threat from the sky.

The entire region of Central and New Delhi will have nearly 70,000 security personnel drawn from Delhi Police and central security forces guarding every nook and corner and watching out for suspicious activities.

The VVIPs enclosure will be put under a multi-layer security ring with Presidential Guards, Special Protection Group and National Security Guard personnel guarding the two inner-most layers and the Delhi Police will be entrusted with guarding the outermost circle of security.

The Delhi Police will form the outermost cordon of the security apparatus with many layers off covers in place.
