Following the sensational ‘smoke and sex’ party by over 100 minors in Gurgaon, the administration on Tuesday decided to conduct a thorough checking of all the pubs, bars and lounges to ensure neither Hookah nor liquor being served to the youth.
In a meeting with senior officials of Excise and taxation department, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal directed all the pub owners to install the better quality of CCTV cameras, so that local police can easily ascertain round-the-clock that they were not selling liquor to youth under 25 years of age.
Section-29 of Punjab Excise Act 1914 prohibits sale of liquor to persons below the age of 25 years and Section 62 of the Act provides penal provisions for violation. “All the pubs and liquor vends will be required to display a warning that ‘Here liquor is not sold to youth under 25 years of age’ as it has been done in case of sale of tobacco products. We have also decided that no pub or bar will remain open after midnight. Apart from the team, senior officers of police and administration would also conduct surprise checking in pubs and bars, submitting their reports to the Deputy Commissioner every month. It was also decided that the Deputy Commissioner will issue orders under Section 144 of Cr PC 1973 for installation of CCTV cameras in pubs, for non-serving of liquor to the youth under 25 years of age and for ensuring that the pubs were not kept open after midnight” Mittal said.
