The Delhi Assembly’s Petition Committee on Thursday has decided to summon lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung and Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) Chief MK Meena. Delhi Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla said Jung and ACB chief will be summoned for “questioning” in connection with four cases pertaining to alleged scams during the Sheila Dikshit rule.
Birla said they will be summoned by the Petitions Committee of the Assembly, which looks into complaints received from common public. Birla, who is the chairperson of the Committee, told a Press conference that it has power to summon the l-G who has to tell as to why no action was taken on four FIRs registered by the AAP Government during its 49-day stint.
“At a meeting of the Petitions Committee, we have decided to summon the l-G, Meena and investigating officer (of the cases). (They) will be summoned for questioning by the Committee pertaining to registration of five FIRs during the previous AAP Govern-ment. We will also seek legal opinion from the Standing Counsel to proceed,” she said.
Birla said the issue was serious as two former Union Ministers and a prominent industrialist were involved in the cases. She alleged that the l-G and ACB adopted an “indifferent attitude” in getting the cases probed.
On the other hand, experts said Delhi Assembly cannot summon the l-G. Meanwhile, Meena dismissed allegations in connection with the cases and said though he has received no notice yet but he has sought legal opinion whether he can be issued any notice on the same. “I would request their (AAP) leaders not to go here and there with false allegations. If needed, we will take action against them,” he said.
