Three members of a family were gunned down outside their house in South-East Delhi’s Jaitpur area on Saturday night. Investigation revealed that the incident was an outcome of personal rivalry and the victims, Om Prakash (50), his wife Shanti Devi (46), and their 22-year-old son Amit Mishra alias Rinku were attacked by two armed assailants. Rinku died on the spot while his parents died later in the hospital. It was a twin tragedy for the family of slain Mishra who was to be married in June this year.
Om Prakash, who hails from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, was working in a garment factory in Okhla Industrial area while Amit worked in an export firm in Okhla. Initial investigations revealed this a case of personal enmity as the accused Bir Singh’s family had earlier harassed and assaulted the Mishras a number of times.
Police said the incident took place around 9.30 pm on Saturday when Amit was heading home. “Accused Sachin, a notorious criminal and the victim’s neighbour, Bir Singh were waiting in their Alto for him as they wanted to settle scores of a prolonged personal enmity between the two families. Amit was about to reach home on his motorcycle when the main accused Sachin waylaid him and opened the car door. Sachin fired two shots killing Amit on the spot,” the officer added.
In the meantime, the victim’s parents Om Prakash and his wife Shanti Mishra came out from their residence to help their son but the accused Sachin too gunned them down. “At the time of the incident, Om Prakash’s eldest daughter-in-law Sarla Mishra, younger son Ajit and granddaughters were present at home. After hearing the gunshots, Ajit closed the doors even though Sachin fired several rounds,” police officer said.
After firing around 10 rounds, the accused Sachin then escaped from the scene along with his associate Bir Singh. “After closing the doors, Ajit made a frantic call to his elder brother Surjeet Mishra (29). The victims were taken to a hospital nearby where they were pronounced dead on arrival,” the officer added. After registering a case, police started investigation and arrested the accused, Sachin and Bir Singh, from their hideouts on Sunday morning.
