In a shocking incident in the Capital, nearly a dozen passengers in a passenger train were looted and assaulted at gun and knife point by a gang of armed assailants. The incident occurred when the train was halted at Old Delhi Railway Bridge near the Old Delhi Railway Station late night on Wednesday.
While the Moradabad-Delhi train no. 54307 was waiting for a green signal at the bridge between Shahdara junction and old Delhi junction, a group of around six men with sharp-edged weapons and countrymade pistols barged into a coach of the train and robbed the passengers. The assailants also thrashed some passengers, snatched their valuables worth thousands and decamped under the cover of darkness as soon as the train started moving towards the Old Delhi Railway Station.
As soon as the train reached the station, frightened passengers immediately informed the railway officials and the Railway Police. All the injured persons were rushed to a nearby Government hospital from where they were given first aid and discharged. Meanwhile, several passengers accused the railway department of deliberately halting the train in dark despite knowing the fact that the passengers could be attacked and that it was a routine practice.
A detailed description of the accused has been provided by the affected passengers and the police are trying to identify the miscreants.
