A 50-year-old man was allegedly stabbed 24 times in full public view in south-east Delhi’s Amar Colony area on Thursday evening. The victim, Khushiram, was stabbed by Belkaran Yadav, who had been arrested for molesting one of Khushiram’s daughters and was out on bail.
Yadav, who was running away after committing the crime, was overpowered by Head Constable Jitender and handed over to the local police.
Romil Baniya, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east) said, “On Thursday evening around 6 pm, Belkaran Yadav was spotted by a policeman on duty running with a knife and blood soaked clothes near Kalicharan slum in Amar Colony.
“When a Head Constable tried to nab Yadav, he was threatened by the man. When the policeman pointed his gun at the suspect, Yadav threw a stone at him. However, Jitender managed to overpower Yadav. At the same time we also received a PCR call regarding a 50-year-old man being stabbed 24 times. The victim, Khushiram, was declared brought dead at the hospital.”
Police sources said, Khushiram had three daughters. In 2013, Yadav was arrested in a case of molestation filed by Khushiram after Yadav allegedly molested one of his daughters.
“Following which, Yadav was sent to judicial custody for a year. In November 2014, Yadav was granted bail by the court. The matter is under trial. We are looking at the records to see whether the family had
complained that the suspect was threatening them,” the police said.
Talking to The Pioneer, Hetram, a relative of Khushiram said, “This was not the first time Khushiram was attacked. After filing the case, Khushiram was beaten up. They (the accused) are local criminals who used to pass lewd remarks at his daughter and even molested her. They were pressurising the girl to take back the complaint. A month ago, the accused had threatened Khushiram’s family of dire consequences.”
Meanwhile, Rahul, son of Khushiram, said, “My sister was also molested by Yadav after he came out of jail. We did file a complaint with the local police but they refused to act on it. In front of me, I saw my father being stabbed.”
The girl’s mother shared, “This has been happening since long. No one listens to us.
He was arrested once but soon got bail and again my daughter was molested by him. My husband was also threatened.”
Meanwhile, the girl said, “They have been harassing me for a long time. There was a time when I feared stepping out. Apart from Yadav, there were other persons who also attacked my father.”
