North Campus colleges are not the last stop for admission seekers as a number of off-campus colleges also provide a wider option for the aspirants who are running from pillar to post to grab a seat in the Delhi University.
Colleges such as the Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, Guru Gobind Singh College, Shaheed Rajguru Applied Sciences for Women (SRASW), Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Shyam lal College, Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences and Zakir Husain College provide numerous honours courses and specialised courses including a well established infrastructure giving ample options for students to explore.
Deen Dayal Upadhyay College is located at Karampura near Moti Nagar currently but the campus will be shifted in the next two years to Dwarka where a seven-storey building, the first multi-storey college of Delhi University, is being constructed to provide students bigger campus and larger opportunities.
“We have nine honours courses out of which seven are science disciplines. Some of them offer Honours in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science and Mathematics. The most-talked-about BMS course will also be offered here. Our focus is on the over all development of students and we are doing everything to give the best to our students,” said SK Garg, the principal of the college.
Flaunting about the positives of the college, he said a wholesome environment of extra-curricular activities is there for students which include dramatic club, modern United Nations club, debating society, music society, photography club and also subject society that involves organising activity pertaining to a discipline.
Courses like Economic (Hon) and English (Hon) are a hit and last year the cut off of the English (Hon) was 88 per cent. While a lot of girls are queing up with a wish to study at girls’ colleges like Miranda House and lSR College, the SRASW at Vasundhara Enclave offers five undergratuate courses of BSc honours in Electronics, Biomedical Sciences, Computer Science, Food Technology and Instrumentation. It also runs a diploma pragramme with IGNOU and CISCO.
M Aslam Parvaiz, Principal of the Zakir Husain College at Jawahar lal Nehru Marg said there is no comparison between colleges. He underlined that an educational institute is complete only when it gives out everything that a student requires for life.
The college located near Ajmeri Gate offers a wide range of Honours courses in streams of Humanities, Commerce and Science and uniquely offers a number of language courses such as Sanskrit, Urdu and Persian. Aslam said we do not completely believe in the cut-off list and decide on a student’s capability.
