A one-and-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her caretaker in South Delhi’s Shahpur Jat area. The accused identified as Santosh (26) was arrested on Monday from the victim’s house, said Chinmoy Biswal, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police South Delhi.

A case under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code has been registered at Hauz Khas police station.  Santosh, a native of Bihar was hired as caretaker of the house by victim’s father a few months back through a service provider agency.

The victim’s father works as a housekeeper provider and a financer in collaboration with his friend whereas victim’s mother works as tiffin box provider.

The victim’s father said, “The incident came to notice on Monday when my wife came home at 1.30 pm and found that our daughter was bleeding from her private parts and crying due to pain. My wife repeatedly knocked the door but no one opened the door. When she tried to forcibly open the door Santosh came and opened it.”

He said, “When she asked the reason for not opening the door, Santosh made some excuse. She heard our daughter crying and when she found her in another room, our daughter was bleeding. Even when she asked Santosh about it he refused to know about it.”

After sensing some foul play, the victim’s mother called her husband with neighbour’s phone and informed him about the daughter’s condition.

“I was in bank with Amardeep when I got call from my wife. We rushed home and even then my daughter was continuously bleeding. Amardeep overpowered Santosh and threatened him to tell the truth,” said victim’s father.

later, Santosh broke down and said, “He and his friend, Ranveer, 21 have been raping the minor from last nine days,” said the victim’s father.

“We immediately made a PCR call and brought the girl to Safdarjung hospital,” said Amardeep.

“PCR call was made around 2 pm on Monday and immediately Santosh was arrested from the house. He confessed his involvement in crime and further investigation In the matter is underway,” added the officer.

Infuriated with the incident, Swati Maliwal chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) visited the hospital on Tuesday and met the victim and her family.

She said, “Despite of continuous request from Center and State government to ensure death penalty for people who commit such heinous crime with the minors yet no action been taken. Rape and assault incidents with minors are on rise in Delhi and every day I come across with such news. The safety of girls and women have been compromised for political benefit but DCW will not let this happen. I will urge Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Home Minister Rajnath Singh to again think about my proposal and hold high level meeting to ensure safety of women.”

After visiting the hospital she along with DCW volunteers protested outside Rajnath Singh’s house but within half an hour she and other DCW volunteers were detained and taken to the Mandir Marg police station.
