In yet another election sop to Delhiites, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to waive the penalty imposed on property tax defaulters apart from giving a concession on the interest amount. Officials said the scheme would benefit lakhs of property owners, attracting property owners to pay taxes. It would be effective from August 1.
“As per the scheme, all penalties, irrespective of the amount, will be waived off if the property owner pays the due tax amount by the month of November. In case of interest amount for the current fiscal, if the tax payer pays till August 31, 100 per cent of the interest amount will be waived off.
Payment of taxes in September will entail waiver of 75 per cent, in October, 50 per cent, in November 25 per cent waiver would be liable. Tax payers after November would pay 100 per cent penalty with the interest amount,” said Ram Kishan Singhal, Standing Committee Chairman in NDMC, while passing the resolution of leader of House Mahendra Nagpal.
The resolution was backed by the Opposition Congress members and civic bodies who imposed penalty against house tax defaulters for several years. South and East Delhi Municipal Corporation are also expected to introduce it soon.
