In order to tackle organised crime in the district, Gautam Budh Nagar police have started establishing their specialised crime branch. The process was initiated by the district police after getting go-ahead from the UP Police two weeks ago.

The cell will comprise over 75 policemen. The department will work as a separate body and will be fully operational from May. The department has been divided under four wings namely — licence wing, detection and investigation wing, crime monitoring wing and operation team. Departments like district crime record bureau (DCRB), surveillance and cyber cell will also be part of it.

The officials have decided to include criminal intelligence, surveillance, investigation, serious crime unit, financial crime, cyber crime, field unit, dog squad, organised crime unit, DCRB, anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU), juvenile, narcotics and special weapons and tactics (SWAT) under the newly created crime branch in the district.

Right to register FIR will also be available to the branch. A superintendent rank official will officiate the whole affair.

According to a senior police official, the decision was taken keeping in view of surging cases of crime in and around the district. “As Noida is an important part of NCR region, we had demanded to establish a separate cell of police to handle organised and other heinous crime. Once after getting nod from the UP Police, we have started process of its establishment and the department will be fully operational from beginning of the month,” said Bharti Singh, Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch), Gautam Budh Nagar.

Initially, the department will work with the help of district police and gradually it will function as a separate body. We have also demanded to open a police station under the Crime Branch for its smooth conduct and proper functioning. Presently, the complainant could register their complaints at its main office, she added.

Showing satisfaction over the move of the police, NP Singh, president of Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association (FoNRWA), said, “As the cases of crime are increasing regularly, daily policing should be sharper. The decision to form a new branch will definitely help in curbing crime up to a certain extent.”
