After slew of measures by Union Transport Ministry to legalise e-rickshaw in the national Capital earlier, Noida Authority has also announced to frame policies for registering e-rickshaws and issuing identity cards to e-rickshaw drivers for plying in the city and its peripheral areas. The authority also announced to register cycle rickshaws in the city because their pullers will not require

driving licences and public service badges as they are not governed by the Motor Vehicles Act. According to a senior official, they have been planning to authorise a local body for registering the e-rickshaw, rickshaws and pullers so the owners do not have to go to the State Government for this.

Sandeep Chandra, in-charge of Noida Traffic Cell, informed that the chairman of Noida Authority, Rama Raman, has asked for framing policies for plying such vehicles in the city. It has also been decided to make stands at various places for these vehicles and decide their routes for plying. “We have been working out on a plan for registration process. If violations take place, action will be a provision of penal action against the driver also,” said Chandra. Presently more than 2,500 e-rickshaws are running on various routes and their fleet is augmenting over 100 per month. The vehicles are mainly plying from Metro stations and busiest markets. Numbers of cycle rickshaws are also over 5,000. Noida authority has also decided to implement the vendor and kiosk policy. The authority officials informed that policy is being made under UP Integrated Industrial Township Policy. As per the plan separate places will be allotted for vendor shops and kiosks.
