The defense research body DRDO-designed toilets run on the technology that breaks down the waste into odourless solid and liquid, making drainage redundant.
These toilets have the potential to turn new rural toilets into urban drainage systems which don’t require handling human waste. The toilets will use anaerobic digestion technology which would treat wastewater without using oxygen. Many countries in Europe and latin America utilise this technology which treats wastewater in an environmentally friendly way, facilitating its use for irrigation or its return to water bodies without polluting them.
