The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has approved the proposal for the laying of internal water distribution pipelines in Swaroop Nagar. Under this scheme, the 33-km long distribution and peripheral pipelines of varying sizes will be laid.

This scheme is expected to provide potable water facility to about 75,000 residents of Swaroop Nagar area and is expected to be completed within one year. The announcement to this effect was made by officials during its scheduled board meeting on Tuesday.

The Board has approved the  proposal of setting up of the decentralised drinking water plants in ten resettlement colonies, in the areas of Shahbad Daulatpur, Rohini Sector 23 and 26, Metro Vihar Holambi and Holambi Kalan Phase-II, Narela, Bakkarwala, Madanpur Khadar Ph-III, Molar Band Ph-I and II etc in the resettlement colonies. The land for these plants will be provided by Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). This project is based on DJB’s pilot project in Savda Ghevra, where the residents are using the drinking water facility at an affordable price within the colony.

To augment ground water resources in the flood plains of Palla region (Alipur Block), the Board has approved the rehabilitation and augmentation of the existing tube wells and ranney wells at a total cost of Rs 16.99 crore. The SCADA System will be used in automating the whole system to increase the supplies from the existing level of 21-22 MGD to approximately 35 MGD (Phase-I).

The Board also approved the replacement of 1,500 mm and 1,000 mm diameter water pipe lines emanating from Haiderpur in various stretches at a total cost of Rs 19.77 crore. The transmission mains from Haiderpur WTP have outlived their useful life and are vulnerable to leakages/pipe bursting leading to disruption in water supply frequently and require replacement.
