North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has attached 648 bank accounts and 670 properties of those who failed to clear property tax due this year.

Additional Commissioner (Revenue) B M Mishra said that since April 2004 after  the unit area method was implemented, it is the responsibility of the property owner to deposit property tax before due date.

He said that the move was taken after many of the owners were found failing in depositing their due.

"Property owners are suggested to deposit their due for year 2018-19 along with arrears in time to avoid any inconvenience," he said.

A senior NMC official said that tax is calculated in unit area method after multiplying base unit area value with covered area and rate of tax, including factors for occupancy, age, structure and use.

It is based on fixing a unit area value per square metre of covered space for calculation of property tax, he said.
