New lanes on Shahdara drain open to public

Bringing relief to thousands of commuters, two newly-constructed lanes on both sides of Shahdara drain, between Film City and Mahamaya Flyover, was opened for the commuters on Monday. The lanes were opened for the people finally after missing several deadlines in the past. The decision was taken in this regard considering increase in vehicular volume on the route during Asian Development Bank’s Summit in the first week of May.

With the opening of the newly additional lanes, the commuters between Greater Noida and national Capital will not face long hours’ jam from Noida gate to Mahamaya Flyover. The motorists were always found stuck as the bottleneck created between the drain and Mahamaya Flyover causing traffic halt on the entire stretch.

The authorities were working round the clock to ensure that work ends ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s scheduled visit to the Expo Centre in Greater Noida for the summit. “We are opening Noida-Greater Noida side from Monday and are working round the clock to complete Greater Noida-Noida stretch and hopefully it will also be opened in next few hours. This bridge will prove quite handy for the delegates of different countries on their way to summit scheduled from May 2 to 5,” said an official.

Opening of this bridge will also solve Noida police’s problem. “For time being, we had barricaded the road as heavy traffic jam was witnessed daily and instead of funnel like structure over the bridge we have tried to make it a straight road, which slows the traffic but gets clear. After opening of this bridge there won’t be any bottle neck and traffic will move smoothly between Mayur Vihar to Greater Noida,” said MP Singh, Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Noida.
