Neutrality vs biased: AAP joins battle to 'save the Internet'

Staff Reporter

Coming out in support of net neutrality, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday demanded that all online sites be treated equally by telecom companies. Tweeting on the issue, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote, “AAP committed to neutral Internet. India must debate #NetNeutrality. I support #SaveTheInternet campaign http://www.savetheinternet.in.”

#SaveTheInternet campaign allows any user to directly send an e-mail to TRAI in support of net neutrality. Demanding net neutrality, AAP MlA, Adarsh Shastri said that content and the medium to reach to the content, should be independent. “A medium which takes the user to the content should not have control over how to access it. It will lead to monopolistic situation,” he said.

Various online campaigns have gathered momentum on social media against telecom operators charging extra money from users and companies to open some selected apps faster, and slowing down the others. Netizens have been demanding net neutrality so that all sites are equally accessible, at the same speed, and if there is a cost of access, it should be the same for all.
