Under the smart city project, the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) building will become the first Government building with façade digital lights and three dimensional lED screens. Besides, the NDMC will install three big display screens at Khan Market, Dhaulakuan and Connaught Place. The project is expected to complete before January 26, 2017.  According to Naresh Kumar, Chairman, NDMC, the project concept is inspired from Times Square, New York.

Around 1,350 square meter area of Palika Kendra will be digitalised with large display screens.

Interestingly, to make the masses aware about air quality of NDMC zone, modern equipment to measure pollutants will be installed in laboratories with respect to lED locations.

Moreover, city people can communicate with the world through internet facilities in Palika Kendra premises.

While the project to install digital façade lights has been given to Philips, Kumar said that the total cost of the project is less than Rs 6 crore. "These lights will be installed from eleventh floor to top floor of NDMC building," he said.

When asked, what is the role of lED screens, NDMC chairman said advertisements related to public interests and central Government policies will be flashed on screens. "These digital lights and lEDs will not consume much energy," Kumar added.

With the installments of these screens, city people can see movies and recorded speeches of politicians from other States of the country. "For fun, people can flash their messages to other people of other States and countries with internet," said an NDMC official.
