It being Gandhi Jayanti on Thursday along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the ‘Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan’ in the lutyens’ Delhi, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is trying all means to beautify the posh area. From floral images of Mahatma Gandhi to animal motifs, the civic body has gone all flowery to decorate various vantage points in its area.
A ride around the roundabouts in lutyens’ zone is bound to grab your attention as the civic body has installed floral motifs shaped out into animals and birds at these locations. “We have made elaborate arrangements for October 2 as a part of the PM’s clean India campaign. Around 15 figures of animals and birds, all made of flowers, have been installed at various roundabouts. Our horticulturists have artistically created camels, butterflies, elephants, birds and so on,” said JP Sharma, Director (Horticulture), NDMC. Around 15 such floral sculptures have been installed by the council in different roundabouts.
To celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, the council has also put up floral images of Mahatma Gandhi at various locations. “We have put up 72 floral boards, each having different images of Gandhiji across the Central Delhi. We have drawn Gandhi’s face with flowers and also created his Dandi March in the same way. These can be found at Shanti Path, Aurobindo Marg among others. We had put up floral works first for the Independence Day which was a big success,” added Sharma.
Besides, there are 19 floral fountains, he added. These can be found at Yashwant Place, outside Hyderabad House and so on. The civic body has also created a Facebook page, ‘hohoshameshame’ and has asked the people to post photographs of all those littering or urinating at public places.
