Two young girls from the Northeastern State were found dead under mysterious circumstances by one of their roommates in South Delhi's Munirka Vihar area on Friday morning. According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police 1 (South) Chinmoy Biswal, the two girls — Clara and Rakil, both aged 22 years old were found lying unconscious on the floor of the rented accommodation.
The incident came to light on early morning when Jenny, a close friend of Clara returned from her night shift. She along with her cousin rushed the girls to the Safdarjung hospital where they were declared brought dead by the doctors.
In the preliminary investigation, it appears that the two girls died due to drug overdose and alcohol consumption. Both the victims were natives of Mizoram and their family has been informed about their deaths.
Police have requested the hospital authorities to constitute a medical board to ascertain the exact cause of their death, a senior police officer said. “The duo were brought in an unconscious state and they were unconscious. Blood samples confirmed that they were under the influence of drugs. They were declared dead at 7 am,” a senior doctor said.
Clara lives in Delhi and was presently unemployed. Rakil, who lives in lucknow, had come to Delhi on Thursday. The duo had gone to meet a friend at her flat in Munirka at around 6 pm on Thursday, he said.
Meanwhile, a couple of acquaintances of the two girls expressed shock at the sudden demise. Standing outside the AIIMS mortuary, the friends refused to comment about what exactly happened on Thursday night which led to the deaths of the two Northeastern girls.
Clara and Rakil stayed over at Munirka, while their friend left for the call centre where she works, the police officer said. On Friday morning, when Jenny returned from work, she found the door locked from inside. Despite repeated knocks, no one responded. She peeped into the room through a window and found the duo lying. She called her cousin lian and they rushed the duo to Safdarjung Hospital.
“Preliminary inquiry has revealed that they died due to overdose of drugs. We have requested Safdarjung Hospital to constitute a medical board to carry out the autopsy in order to ascertain the exact cause of death,” the police officer said.
The hospital authorities, however, said they were yet to receive a request for the constitution of medical board. “Once we receive the request we will constitute the board for conducting post-mortem,” said a senior doctor of the Safdarjung hospital.
The room where the girls were present last night has been sealed and it is being inspected by the forensic team. The families of the two girls have been informed about the incident.
