South Delhi Police has arrested a wanted criminal involved in a murder case and carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 over his head.

"During the interrogation the Delhi police disclosed that the accused is closely associated with the Rohit Chaudhary gang and committed many crimes. He was in Tihar Jail along with his associates since November last year. Accused further told the police that he was on the run since his name was disclosed by his member Amit and remained underground in South India and other parts of Western Uttar Pradesh" he further added.

"The incident was reported on March 22 when Delhi police received a call and immediately rushed to the spot and found that a man was lying in pool of blood at the spot and the victim was taken to Max Hospital in  Saket where he was declared brought dead by the doctors" the official said.

"The CCTVs installed nearby spots were minutely scrutinized in which two motorcyclists were seen absconding from the scene of crime. The pictures retrieved from the CCTV footage were blurred and the identity of culprits could not be established," the official added.

The police team arrested Amit Kumar on April 1 near Udhyog Vihar Metro Station in Nangloi. Kumar disclosed that he had committed the crime along with Sunil Raj, who had fired upon the deceased.

Special cell was activated and efforts were made by the Delhi police to arrest Sunil Raj.

On June 12, the team received information from sources that the accused will go to Sangam Vihar to meet one of his friends on motorcycle. On receipt of this information, the police team swung into action and a trap was laid on that place.

The police team signalled accused Sunil Raj to stop while he on his motorcycle. Instead the accused fired upon the police party. The police party escaped narrowly, acted swiftly and managed to overpower the accused after a minor chase, police said.
