The much awaited top level reshuffle in Delhi Police was effected on Wednesday with Joint Commissioner of Police, Central Range Taj Hassan being posted as the new Special CP, Traffic while his batchmate from the 1987 batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS) P Kamraj, holding the charge of Joint CP, South Eastern Range will take over as the new Special CP, Vigilance. N Dilip Kumar also from the 1987 batch has been promoted and posted as the Special CP, Provisioning and logistics.
The most shocking omission in the promotion list issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) was that of Satyendra Garg of the 1987 batch. Garg who till recently held the post of Joint CP, Traffic was denied promotion owing to a chargesheet issued by MHA. Garg bore the brunt for being the supervisory authority of Delhi Traffic Police that was held responsible for allowing unhindered run to the infamous bus that was used by the gang of criminals to rape the hapless 23-year-old para-medical girl student on the night of December 16, 2012. Garg has now proceeded on study leave as his fate hangs in the balance till the MHA decides on his next promotion that has been kept in ‘sealed cover’.
Sanjay Beniwal, the Joint CP, Recruitment and Armed Police, replaces Kamraj as the Joint CP of South Eastern Range. A 1989 batch IPS officer Beniwal had earlier held the post of DCP, North, Traffic and Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. A no-nonsense officer, Beniwal is a tough task master too. He was recently repatriated to Delhi from Arunachal Pradesh. He had served with Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) and Adman and Nicobar Islands in different capacities.
Beniwal’s batchmates Mukesh Kumar Meena and SK Gautam have been posted as Joint CP, General Administration (GA) and Security respectively. Gautam returns to Delhi Police after a gap of 12 years or so while Meena replaces Depender Pathak of the 1990 batch. Pathak who returned to Delhi recently from Mizoram will now take over as the new Joint CP, Establishment. Pathak had held several posts in Delhi Paolice that of DCP, South West, West, Crime and Additional CP, GA.
In another significant change, Tajendra Singh luthra, a 1990 batch officer who held the charge of Joint CP, Northern Range has been posted to as the new Joint CP Central Range. A tough cop luthra will have to
contend with demonstrations in the highly sensitive New Delhi district.
New Delhi district has become the area of focus with various political parties holding a spate of rallies to lodge their protest against the Centre’s policies. The action has now shifted to the famous addressed in the National Capital such as; 10, Janpath, 24 Akbar Road, 7 Race Course Road and 11 Ashoka Road. New Delhi district police has been stretched beyond limits and the new Joint CP Central Range will have to be on his toes to maintain sanity in the highly fortified lutyen’s Zone.
Another tough cop Virender Singh Chahal of the 1991 batch and holding the charge of Joint CP Establishment has been posted as the new Joint CP of Northern Range. Chahal had served Delhi Police in various capacities and most notable being, his stint as DCP, North West district and South East district as Additional CP. Meanwhile a K Singh of
1999 batch has been promoted and posted as Additional Commissioner in Traffic (HQ).
