A day after law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar resigned from his post on Tuesday night following his arrest on charge of procuring fake law degree; another skeleton is tumbling out of the closet revealing what could spell more trouble for the AAP MlA.
Documents accessed through RTI show that the tenure of Tomar’s BSc degree from Avadh University clashes with that of another degree he pursued at Delhi University. As per the documents, the 49-year-old former Minister was a regular student of BA Pass at Rajdhani College, Delhi University, from 1985 to 1988.
However, documents submitted by Tomar to the Bar Council stated that he procured a B.Sc degree from Dr Ram Manohar lohia Avadh University, Faizabad. The time period of the degree directly clashes with that of his DU stint.
“Tomar was a student with Rajdhani College till 1987. He was a regular attendee of subject like English, Economics, Hindi, and History. He failed in a few subjects and therefore dropped out after 1987,” said a source on the condition of anonymity.
The row over Tomar’s degree began before the elections. A writ petition was filed before the Delhi High Court on February 4 in 2015, alleging that Tomar had given “wrong information” in his affidavit at the time of filing his nomination.
“The college records reveal that Tomar was a student of BA Pass from 1985 to 1988, not B.Sc student of Rajdhani College. While the reason for his dropping out from college has not been identified,” read Rajdhani college’s documents.
Tomar’s office, however, stressed that he took admission in Rajdhani College in the year 1985 but dropped out from college in the same year, much against the documents released by Rajdhani College.
The documents were released following an RTI filed by former MlA of Tri Nagar, Nand Kishor Garg. Tomar was arrested by the Delhi Police for procuring fake degrees on Tuesday following which he tendered his resignation as the Delhi law Minister.
