Rahiba R Parveen

In an effort to encourage the role of women in leadership, Miranda House started a ten-week course titled “Rethinking the obvious: Examining the rhetoric of development” in a collaboration with The

George Washington University (GWU).

In coming days specialised external guests would visit the college for lectures. ‘”This initiative is primarily to enhance critical thinking, communication and writing skills to enable participants to take on leadership roles in the future. It is structured to be a Seminar Course with leading experts in the area,” Principal, Miranda House, Pratibha Jolly told the Pioneer. She said the girls are the future leaders thus such programmes would pave a way for them.

The cornerstone of this Seminar course is discussions and collaborative work. The students will have an online interaction with the faculty and students of the GWU where Steven Salchak will run a parallel course of the Elizebeth J Sommers Women’s leadership Programme. The first 20 enrolled students of the college have started from August 25. The course will end on November 06.

“Our college is always keen to give its students vast exposure of different learning and training programmes. I have a team of co-ordinators from the department of Economics, Sociology and History,” Jolly added. The students from the BA (Honours) courses of III and V year are eligible for the course. On successful completion, participants would be given a certificate from the college.
