The Aam Aadmi Party-led Delhi Government is leaving no stone unturned to overcome the shortage of water in the national Capital. To address the issue, the Toilet To Tap-Transforming lives through Technology is one of the pilot projects taken by the Delhi Government with the coordination of Delhi Jal Board (DJB).

In the first phase, toilet treated water, which is being processed for drinking purpose, will be served to all the Ministers and various departments of the Government at the Delhi Secretariat by the end of this month.

To overcome the problem of water crisis, toilet water — that is used only for farming and gardening, but now on it will be used for drinking purpose — is treated and made potable through various tests at the Government laboratory.

“We have ensured that all impurities and bacteria are removed and this sewage waste water is 100 percent safe and potable water,” said a source and added that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal drank at least three glass of water on the launch of Toilet To Tap-Transforming lives through Technology.

By the end of this month, the treated toilet water is likely to reach at the Chief Minister’s office. “In the first phase, the treated water will be served to the entire ministry in the form of packed bottles and packets at Delhi Secretariat,” source said.

Beside this, the treated water will be supplied to the residents of the DJB officials who live nearby and soon after that; this water will be supplied to all the houses in the Capital. “We will also spread awareness among people that the toilet water, if treated, can be used,” said the source, adding that with this, the shortage of water in the Capital can be tackled.

For this, an NGO named SANA will help the Delhi Government by conducting a campaign to educate the Delhi citizens and shatter taboo about recycled water.
