Bollywood singer Mika Singh was arrested and released on bail within four hours on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a doctor at a concert in South-West Delhi’s Inderpuri area. The case against the 38-year-old singer was registered in April but he appeared before police after several notices were served to him for joining the probe.
The popular singer reached Inderpuri police station around 1 pm where he was first questioned and arrested thereafter for assaulting Dr Shrikant, an ophthalmologist, on April 11. A case under sections 323 (assault) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been registered on April 12.
“We had served a notice on him in connection with the case. We questioned him before he was arrested. later, he was released on a personal bond of Rs20,000,” said a senior police official.
The incident had taken place at a concert organised by the Delhi Ophthalmological Society (DOS) at the Delhi Pusa Institute Mela Ground in Inderpuri. Delhi Police had registered a case of causing hurt and wrongful restraint against Mika after a video of the alleged incident had gone viral on the social media.
The victim, posted at Ambedkar Hospital, had suffered internal injury to the left ear due to the assault. “While performing, Mika had called some from the audience on stage for an activity. During the activity, something done by the doctor irked Mika who then slapped him and handed him to the bouncers,” said the officer.
Soon after the incident, the victim’s colleagues created a ruckus at the venue but police immediately intervened and promised action against Mika following which an FIR was filed. Mika had then defended himself claiming the doctor was drunk and causing disruption. Dr Shrikant has alleged that Mika insulted him and slapped him on stage.
