Amid a row over appointment of Delhi’s acting Chief Secretary, lt-Governor Najeeb Jung has briefed the Home Ministry, which is directly responsible for the Capital’s administration, even as Union Home Secretary l C Goyal said his Ministry has nothing to do with the issue.

“The Union Home Ministry has nothing to do with it. The lieutenant Governor and the Chief Minister are competent enough to handle the situation,” Union Home Secretary lC Goyal said on the sidelines of a function. Goyal was responding to questions over Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s objection to the appointment of Gamlin by the l-G as the acting Chief Secretary. Official sources said the l-G has informally briefed the Home Ministry about the situation arising out of Gamlin’s appointment. The Ministry advised Jung to act as per the Constitution, said sources.

Jung was at loggerheads with Kejriwal over the appointment of Gamlin as acting Chief Secretary with the Chief Minister having opposed the l-G’s action.
