Residents of Mehrauli-Gurugram (MG) road marched together on Monday holding candles and banners in protest against pubs, bars and massage centres located inside malls, which are allegedly involved in prostitution and drug peddling.
Members of various Resident Welfare Associations (RWA) and outlet owners were accompanied by state public works department Minister Rao Narbir Singh.
However, The Residents of colonies around MG Road have expressed solidarity with the police for its efforts to curb sex trade on MG Road.
“All the residents of MG Road and surrounding areas demand strict actions against the faulty establishments who are allegedly involved in immoral activities at any cost we will not tolerate these illegal activities in the area. Immoral activities on MG Road is not a law and order problem, but something that disturbs our lives,” said Rajeev Sinha, former president, Essel Tower RWA.
“The atmosphere is uncomfortable, especially if you are with family or friends. Also, the zone is not safe for the women they cannot step out of homes after late hours. Also, many times service lanes are occupied by cabs and autos. Which create huge problems for residents to exit,” Sinha, said.
“We need 24x7 police patrolling on the stretch also the entire Mall Mile be brought under one police station for quick police response. Also, concern police official would not deny taking responsibility by saying that the crime did not take place under their jurisdiction,” he said. As of now the stretch divided between DlF Phase-2 and Sector-29 police stations.

During the raid, 11 women including five Thailand nationals along with customers were arrested and booked under different sections of the Immoral Trafficking Act.
“We have raised the issue before the Chief Minister. The CM has assured us that action against the illegal elements will continue and the Government is aware of their concerns. We hope a better result will come up in front of us soon,” said Akash Oberoi, vice-president MGF Mall Association said.
