Staff Reporter

A gang of Mewat’s notorious cattle thieves surfaced again in the Pul Prahladpur area of South east Delhi and murdered a youth identified as one Ravi when he resisted their attempts to take away livestock from lal Kuan area on Sunday night. The rustlers who had come in a tempo managed to give cops the slip. A massive hunt has been launched to nab the nine members of this gang and a case of homicide and Arms Act registered at Pul Prahladpur police station.

The incident has brought the Mewati gangs into focus again who are known to be on the prowl in the national Capital for smuggling cattle and thefts in showrooms and godowns. According to a police official of the southeast district, there is a milk dairy near a toll booth in lal Kuan area. The dairy owned by one Raj Gurjar has 25 milch cows. Gurjar has employed two boys to oversee the upkeep of livestock. It all happened on Sunday night when Ravi, a 19-year-old boy from the neighbourhood responded after a tempo with nine cattle thieves tried to steal livestock. One of the cowherds woke up after hearing a commotion and was aghast to see a gang of eight to nine people trying to force livestock inside the tempo. He started shouting to attract the attention of neighbours; it alerted Ravi as well. Meanwhile one of the criminals seated in the front bucket seat of the tempo whipped out a pistol and shot Ravi. He died before any medical help could reach him. The gangsters managed to get away.

Police Control Room (PCR) was informed and police officials reached the scene. Ravi’s body was sent to hospital for a post-mortem. This incident has stirred Delhi Police and a hunt has been launched to nab the gang members. Patrolling in the border areas with Haryana too has been intensified, an official added.
