Former Delhi Assembly Speaker Dr Yoganand Shastri has written to lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, alleging that development works have been stopped at Mehrauli constituency in the last one year. Shastri has demanded Jung intervene in the matter.
When asked, Shastri said that all development projects have been stopped in his constituency. “It is strange, the water is a major problem in the area but Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has stopped laying new pipelines here,” he added. In a letter to Jung, the former Delhi Assembly Speaker has demanded a vigilance enquiry of a proposal to construct road from Mehrauli Bus Stand to Qutab Red light as the work was stopped in the midway. Shastri alleged
that housing scheme under Economically Weaker Section (EWS) for people of Kusumpur Pahari jhuggis was sanctioned but no work was initiated by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The Congress leader alleged that development projects have been stopped at the behest of BJP Government at the Centre.
According to Shastri, Rs202 crore was sanctioned for construction of four reservoirs and lying of all new water pipelines but only 60 per cent work done in reservoirs and just few pipelines changed so far.“The work on Rs92 crore sewage project has been on hold. A proposal for construction of foot overbridge (FOB) between JNU and Paschimabad Gate to Vasant Vihar Mall has not started till date despite laying the foundation stone a year back. Now, even the foundation stone has been removed,” he said.
